Alessio Rastani: The Meta Troll or the world’s most honest Trader

By
27/09/2011

The trader at the centre of a controversial interview, in which he claimed the City just “loves” a economic disaster, was today accused of being a hoaxer.

Interviewers were left aghast as Alessio Rastani admitted that traders “don’t really care that much” about the prospect of an economic collapse.

He astonished BBC viewers yesterday by describing his hopes of profiting from a recession, adding: “The governments don’t rule the world -Goldman Sachs rules the world.”

However, within minutes of the astonishing interview with Rastani going viral, the Twittersphere had linked the self-styled independent trader with the hoax group The Yes Men -an organisation that impersonates “bigtime criminals in order to publicly humiliate them.”

One user of Twitter said: “It doesn’t matter if it was Alessio Rastani or The Yes Men. What he said reflects how traders really think.”

Have a look at the video below, and peruse Mr Rastani’s Twitter feed here and make your own decision. Could this man be a giant wind up or simply a die-hard Capitalist being remarkably candid?

Hackney woman stands up to looters.

By
05/08/2011

As London suffered it’s third night of violence, one woman in Hackney has been praised for standing up to the rioters and telling the groups of looters to stop their violence, claiming she was ashamed to be a “Hackney person” as a result of their actions.

Pauline Pearce, 45, a grandmother, jazz singer and community radio activist, shook her walking stick at youths, told them they were looters without a cause and said it made her ashamed to come from Hackney

Known as “Lady P” she has a Monday afternoon show on “Conscious FM” which she calls “More Love” and has run a community project called “Do something for Life.”

The video of her speech was originally filmed by the Daily Telegraph’s Matthew Moore but has since been uploaded onto YouTube and one version has already been watched over one million times.

Viewers of the clip have praised the unnamed woman’s bravery, with many agreeing with her claim that the groups are no longer ‘fighting for a cause’ and are instead ruining people’s livelihoods.

The end of an era. Space Shuttle Atlantis touches down for the last time

By
22/07/2011

The space shuttle Atlantis ended its 12-day mission on Thursday morning at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and with it NASA’s 30-year-old Space Shuttle Program came to a close.

Whilst manned space flight will continue, many still feel that the cancellation of the Shuttle program without a planned replacement is a retrograde step for NASA. The Shuttle, despite the Challenger and Columbia disasters, has captured the imaginations of the planet for three decades.

Drunk Man In London

By
09/06/2011

A drunk thrown from an exclusive London celebrity event has been caught on CCTV performing a spectacular acrobatic fall down stairs.

The drunk tripped down the stairs after being turfed from a theatre awards night last November at The Savoy, hosted by Stephen Fry.

He apparently fell over in front of guests including Sir Ian McKellen and Liam Neeson, before being put out on the street about 2am.

But security footage of the inebriated man in a smart dinner suit shows him as he first trips down a flight of stairs, before tumbling, sliding sideways down a banister and flipping onto his head.

Incredibly, the man is able to get up despite the nasty fall, and continues to stagger and fall onto street furniture for several minutes. They do say that God looks out for drunks and small children…

So far, his identity is unknown.
